I love cake. It is no secret, I have a sugar addiction. But you know what is even better than eating cake? Feeding it to sweet little ones on their first birthday. This little guy came over – and he decided he really shouldn’t be eating the cake all alone, so he managed to drag his whole family into the fun. I loved it. And one of my favorite things about these sessions is all the details and expressions we get to capture, so I put a few together in a little story board here to share.
Oh, and it was a bright beautiful morning, so we got outside for some family photos too. I don’t use backlighting very often – but I think I could get used to that hazy dreamy sunlit look. And his golden hair was perfect for it. Thanks for helping me try something new little guy.
This cutie was a newborn client last spring – it is so much fun to watch my clients grow! Thank you for coming back to share your cake with me for your special birthday Baby X.

I liked the backlit shot! He looks like he is flying!
He looks like an angel! Great use of light in these photos.
These are great pics. I really enjoy the action pics of baby X eating cake.
What a delight seeing these sweet pictures!! He is a doll. I love how babies show their true feelings. And these pictures captured that. And they captured his beautiful skin that I just want to reach out and touch. Great shots!
What wonderful pictures of such a beautiful subject.
Renee, you have done a beautiful job of chronicling Baby X’s story and feelings. I do love the backlit shot. Not only do you present him as a “flying angel,” but you also capture the unique coloring of his eyes. What a doll!
I like this photo a lot. One of its strengths is the soft lighting in the background and how it compliments his expression.
Can’t believe that’s the same little guy who was in the first photo!
Dr. M,
Looks like cupcake likes “big” cakes now!!! 😉
Pictures are adorable. A grandmothers delight.
The backlit photo shows the true Xavier with his natural curly hair.
He makes Grandpa proud, playing with his cake and frosting. Looks like Dad and Mom were having fun with it too.
Nice pictures! What a cutie!
