I’ll Jump in if You Will!
When this family reached out about an Underwater Family Session for their Holiday Portrait and Christmas Card I just about burst. What a fantastic way to round out an amazing season of Underwater Sessions!
School had already started and we knew our days were numbered for beautiful end of summer weather. I was already gearing up for Fall Family and Holiday Fireside Sessions. Mom was a superstar and gathered beautiful outfits for the entire family in just days!
Her troops, on the other hand, were a little hesitant about the idea.
An Underwater Family Photo? For the Christmas Card?
But they rallied pretty quickly when they walked into my yard! I have to admit ~ it was pretty hard to hold them back from jumping in the second they walked through the gate! I really wanted a photo of them all jumping in together. So after some bargaining, we managed to get a few photos at the back of the yard first. And then.
The Big Jump!
I was thrilled that their jump worked out so well. This was a one shot deal. And they were perfection!! You can just see how much fun it was on their faces! I adore a mom with fun ideas. A mom who thinks outside the box, likes to rally her family and help make fun memories. I think this mom gets a gold star for this one!!
A New Tradition?
I have already had a family ask about booking their Family Underwater Holiday Session for next year. This is such a fun (and unique!) switch up to the typical Family Session. I can’t wait for April so we can get started shooting more Underwater Sessions in the Pool!!

I can’t wait to show you all their gorgeous Christmas Card!! I don’t want to spoil the surprise for their family and friends. But it is just beautiful!! I’ll be sharing many of the custom designed cards from this year towards the end of December!
I love how different personalities shine through, even under water. These three portraits, of three siblings ages 8, 10 and 12, are so very different. Mom loved each of them, but they are each so very different!
One of my personal goals for a session is to present photos that make me jealous. Photos that I think ~ oh wow. I want that photo of MY family! Can you guess which of these makes me the most jelly of all?!?
I am thinking this Mama might be the only one of her friends that can claim a family of five photo UNDER the water this Christmas…
Mom asked if we could grab some photos of the kids before everyone jumped in. I loved getting a glimpse of each of their personalities before going under.
I’ll admit they were a little anxious to get in the water! But it was fun to see them interacting on land first ~ and to try to convince them that even when we touch our siblings…we all survive!
Can you believe this beautiful young woman is only eleven years old? I think I have a future Underwater Model on my hands!
