I have to admit – most dads just don’t get too excited about newborn ‘props’, especially for little boys.  In fact, generally they are the ones that would really prefer we don’t stick those super cute little hats on their brand new sons.  We moms tend to think these newborn babies are just the cutest little things on the planet – so why not make them cuter with a little hat, or a bow tie, or a sailboat.  Wait, a what?  A sailboat you say?  Oh, maybe that is a different story…

I discovered an amazing little prop shop, based out in Oregon, called Woodsy Wonders.  She makes the most exquisite little baby beds.  And she just started making little Huck Finn flat bottom sail boats.  Well, with all the baby boys I have lined up in the next few months I knew I just had to have one.  It arrived just a week before Baby H was born and when his Daddy spotted it in my office – let’s just say his enthusiasm for a three hour newborn photography session went in a whole new direction!!  Turns out Daddy loves to sail, and the idea of taking photos of his new baby boy sailing down the ‘river’ was just too hard to resist!

And oh what fun we had.  Baby H loved being outside on a hot humid July day and cozied up just perfectly in his little boat – like it was made for him.  We had a great session inside the studio too.  What a beautiful family of three – they made my job so easy!  I can’t wait to watch you grow little man – maybe you can come visit my boat again sometime 😉

*And just one safety note, it is a dry creek, no water in sight, and my assistant was always within a few inches of baby, always, so baby was very safe – no photo is ever worth putting a baby at risk!!
